Heeey!
Britt and I did heaps of stuff, spread 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 is DONE!

So what's is there to work on for Wednesday?

- Britt & Diana finish drawings = teamwork to get them done.

- Dan, add your illustration, check for mistakes in texts, captions, headings etc.

- Jade, run a test print & final mock up to check that everything is cool, maybe we could even run that by Matt if we can find him? We didn't have time to sort out the pull out quotes today so maybe you could have a look at those too..

- New headings? Jade sent a few;
A Place for Community
Village Life
A Natural Balance
A New Standard of Community Living
Which one could we use where? Any other ideas?

- Feel really good about ourselves and all the hard work! We sould celebrate wed night when we've finished it ey??

Interviwes

Hey

I went to manly today, i spoke to the librarians but they didn't want to answer any questions even though I explained that I was a student etc...

I spoke to the historian and she gave me a little bit of info and a pic of the car park which was there before..

I also took pics from the inside of the library and from the second floor viewing out over the space. GOD I HATE the fire escape!!

haha.. anyway, see you in the morning. Britt and Dan how did you go with layouts and picking fonts? Jade you ok with writing?

Thursday w10 meeting

On Monday we'll work out when to meet up and work on this before Thursday.

FOR NEXT WEEK:

Name of mag!! IDEAS?
Decide on which fonts we want to use for our mag.
Show a packaged set up indesign file of the mag to Matt.

We decided on a letter mark. yeeeey :)
And we discussed the layout and decided against a newspaper, instead its now a magazine focused on typography to connect to the library target market. :)

I'd like to go to a bigger library or something, i feel like i'm still not sure what was there before?.. anyone agree?

xx

Tuesday 28/4 Meeting.

In Thursday's class (Week 10) we'll DECIDE on the shape and size of our Mag!? Bring any ideas you might have. Brittany will bring a Manly Daily Mag that we can have a look at, we were talking about maybe distributing our mag inside the Manly Daily as a separate section?

Britt will also bring pics that we'll have a look at and start paring up pics to texts.. :)
Jade is interviewing the architect Feiko Bouman who designed the library building and market place. SO COOL! Hopefully he'll agree on giving us a photo of him and he can be one of our signature stories.
I will conduct a few more interviews with locals on the weekend.

Oh and don't forget to bring final lettermark ideas done in ILLUSTRATOR ready for use more or less. :)
See u then!

Thursday w9 meeting

- Letter mark has come down to 4 finalists which we will work on separately for next Thursday when Matt wants to see a hole heap and we can make the Final decision.

- Peter said our initial drawings & ideas look good, he was very positive.

When is the next meeting?
We talked about meeting up on Sunday but the logistics of it didn't work out. Instead we will meet up at uni on Tuesday morning 8.30. We have 2h to plan out how to divide the magazine / what to put in where (which we've sort of started we just need to get more specific). We will also divide tasks when it comes to writing and interviews more. Jade has started on the history bit and Peter clarified today that it's more a narrative and not a history lesson. And the interviews "make it fun". An engaging intro and a conclusion that ties in to the beginning.

Thanks everyone! We're getting more and more done and we're on time which is great!

logo tests ?

Triangles, Circle, It reminds of the architecture existing and some of them look hand drawn which draws back to the library. The M could be an open book?

My internet was down all last night, and is acting really weird now. (SO ANNOYED)
But I did some tests with one of the sketched logos. Comments?

Thursday w8 meeting

So we looked at what to do with Market Place, what to change etc. This is a rough sketch of ideas (the areal view one), words marked in pink is what we have to look up (materials, research etc) The other sketch is an example of what an arch for the entrance in to market place would look like (a very bad one but we get the idea).

When it comes to the letter mark Matt turned us into another direction to bring the library side of things more in to the picture. Script fonts. We can have some type of pictogram but the letters MP have to stand out and be the main thing that catches the attention. (Dan will keep on posting ideas make sure to put your opinion in!)

Thanks everyone for great work so far! Lets get ahead with this assignment both to impress Matt and Peter and for our own sake. :)

More area pics / things we noticed.

Have a look at architecture, details, colors, art and styles that already exist. What do we want to keep? And what do we want to change?

Interviwes

Council

The girl at Manly Council was nice, knew straight away which area we were talking about. She directed us to the website where there would be more info "the corso dcp" "business dcp" & "urban design guidelines 2002". (Haven't looked them up yet)

Interviews

Q> How often do you come here and for what reason?
A> Every day, 2-3 days a week, once in a while / I just walk through, I never stop here, We go to the library with the kids, I read my book here in the afternoons.

Q> What do you think of the area?
A> I like it, It's ok I guess, It's not very friendly, looks old, it's so cramped no space, I love the afternoon sun.
More and better seating,
There is not enough space for bikes,
I hate the car park - they should put panels on it with local art or something,
Haha there's an adult shop just here but apparently they aren't allowed to put signs up,
I like the feature wall with quotes of Manly Daily,
The new(ish) cafe's makes it better,
Not many people know about Market Place,
Someone should to something about that big red thing,
Open up the area would be good, so it's more friendly and spacious,
Don't put grass, it would just get distroied
Big modern pavers,
Tucks use it as a driveway = unfriendly > make loading zone instead,
It's called Market Place, how come they don't have the markets here?
I'd like more greneries,
The rest of Manly is very tourist like especially the corso so this is a nice get away for us locals, it's like a hidden/cosy corner which is less noisy and hectic.

People just use it to walk through on their way somewhere else and noone seams to come there to stay except people who go to the library.

Police

It's a dark alley at night time so it obviously doesn't attract many but it has been suprisingly safe and uneventfull. At the backdoor of the Ivanhoe Restaurant thy have a space for smokers so there is a security gard standing there most of the night (=area safe). Us from the Police use the area when walking in between our two main buildings day and night as well.

Thought for photography of Market Place

Hey, was just thinking about taking photos of areas and things and just wanted to say that I really like the look of 'macro' pics, when one thing up close is in focus and the background blurred or the other way around. I got 2 examples of what I mean, I reckon it could look good for the mag. xx
